Canal breach floods 50 acres in Abohar

Abohar, June 17

A 30-foot wide breach in the Malukpura sub-canal on Monday inundated fruit plants in an orchard along with vegetable and cotton fields spread over 50 acres near the Kandhwala road here.

Farmers said they noticed the breach at 4 am and informed Irrigation Department officials.

Subdivisional officer Rajat Kamboj and staff inspected the site and requested the officials concerned at the headworks to suspend the water supply. A JCB machine and labour have been arranged to plug the breach after the water level recedes.
