Punjab's rural homeless are all set to get houses under a scheme approved by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to provide 1,32,620 plots of 5 marla each in villages where land is available with the panchayats.
The Chief Minister had, on January 22, directed all the Deputy Commissioners to launch the scheme on campaign basis after identifying the requisite land for this purpose.
Under the proposal mooted by the Rural Development and Panchayats Department, the Chief Minister has asked the DCs to allot at least 10 plots in every village to the homeless families, where land is available with the panchayats.
Giving details about the district-wise allotment of plots, an official spokesperson said there were 860 panchayats in Amritsar district hence the number of plots to be allotted to such homeless families would be 8,600. Bathinda district has 314 panchayats with 3,140 plots, while Barnala has 175 panchayats with 1,750 plots.
As many as 8,380 plots would be carved out in Ferozepur district by 838 panchayats, whereas 4,350 plots would be provided by 435 panchayats in Fazilka and 2430 plots in Faridkot districts.
In Fatehgarh Sahib, 4,290 plots would be provided in 429 villages, while 12790 plots would be given to such beneficiaries by 1,279 panchayats in Gurdaspur district.
In Hoshiarpur district, 14,050 plots would be given in 1,405 villages, 8,900 plots in 890 villages of Jalandhar, 5,460 plots in 546 villages of Kapurthala, 9,430 in 943 villages of Ludhiana, 2,450 in 245 villages of Mansa, 2,690 in 269 villages of Muktsar, 3,400 plots in 340 villages of Moga, 4,660 plots in 466 villages of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, 10,380 plots in 1,038 villages of Patiala, 6,110 plots in 611 villages of Ropar, 4,210 plots in 421 villages of Pathankot, 5,990 plots in 599 villages of Sangrur, 3,410 plots in 341 villages of SAS Nagar and 5,750 plots in 575 villages of Tarn Taran district.
