Chandigarh/Moga, July 23
Lauding Moga cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur for her performance in the World Cup, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today offered her the post of DSP in the Punjab Police.
The CM promised to review the state’s sports policy so as to provide government jobs to young sportspersons such as Harmanpreet, even as state AAP convener Bhagwant Mann claimed that the state government had made negligible budgetary allocation to create sports infrastructure.
The CM, who called up Harmanpreet’s father Harmandar Singh and announced a cash reward of Rs5 lakh for her, condemned the then Akali-BJP government for denying Harmanpreet a police job.
Meanwhile, Mann interacted with Harmanpreet’s family at her residence in Moga today.
Talking to mediapersons, he said the Chief Minister had not given the sports portfolio to any minister, which showed the government’s disinterest in encouraging sportspersons. He was accompanied by Faridkot MP Sadhu Singh, Nihalsinghwala MLA Manjit Singh Bilaspur and local AAP leaders.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) announced Rs1 lakh for the cricketer.
