Ropar, July 19
The district is all set to get a skill institute as the ground-breaking ceremony was performed by Panj Pyaras after head granthi of Katalgarh Sahib Gurdwara Amrik Singh offered ardas at Chamkaur Sahib near here today.
Though the foundation stone of the institute was laid by CM Capt Amarinder Singh on March 6, the work on it could not be started as local resident Amarjit Singh moved the court over changing the nature of the “charand” land by proposing to do construction work. On July 15, the court of Civil Judge (junior division), Ropar, declined the stay application following which the work on the institute started today.
Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute that would come up on 42 acres would be a centre of excellence. Nearly Rs1,000 crore would be spent on the institute which would help in providing skills to the youth of the area. — TNS
