Chintpurni medical college students knock at MCI’s door

Demanding their shifting to other medical colleges in the state after the closure of Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Pathankot, 249 MBBS students of CMCH and their parents today held a protest at Medical Council of India (MCI) and Oversight Committee (OC) office in New Delhi.

Dr Sushil Garg, president of the Chintpurni Medical College Parents’ Association, said MCI secretary Reena Nayyar told the parents that after giving approval to the shifting of these students by the MCI Executive Committee, the file was sent to the oversight committee on November 30.

“VK Paul, president, OC, assured us that they would fast-track the process and give approval to the shifting this week,” claimed the students.

However, the students have decided to camp in New Delhi till the OC and Union Ministry of Health give their approval to shifting, claimed the parents.

The fate of these students is hanging in balance as the DMER is waiting for the approval from the MCI, OC and the Union Health Ministry before shifting the students.

As the High Court-set deadline for shifting expired on November 8, parents approached the court to start contempt of court proceedings against DMER, MCI and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences for non-compliance of its orders. The court has fixed December 8 for the hearing of this contempt petition.
