A constable was injured after being allegedly shot by two youths outside the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) here on Monday morning.
The injured cop has been identified as Davinder Singh of Kot Maan village. A bullet hit Davinder on his right leg, who is undergoing treatment at the DMCH and his condition is stated to be out of danger. As per information, the incident took place near a park outside the hospital at 9.30 am.
“Davinder along with another cop was deployed outside the DMCH. Two youths arrived on a motorcycle. As their vehicle had no registration number and the duo appeared suspicious, Davinder approached them. On seeing him, youths tried to escape but he held one of the suspects. During a scuffle, the youth fired and fled,” said sources.
Davinder was rushed to the hospital by people. Soon after the incident, senior police officers, including Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill, ADCP Surinder Lamba and others reached the spot. Gill also visited the hospital.
Sources said Davinder clicked some pictures of the suspects before being shot at. “The accused have been identified. Police teams have been searching for them and they will be arrested soon,” said Ludhiana Commissioner of Police.
Later, DGP Suresh Arora visited the hospital. He announced Rs 1 lakh for Davinder and promoted him to the rank of Head Constable.
