Patiala, December 14
Keeping in step with the time, the state-run transport corporation – Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) – will provide an option of digital payment to the commuters in the state from January 1.
After initiating the online ticket booking system this year, the PRTC has taken another step to reduce cash transactions.
Commuters travelling in the PRTC buses will now be able to pay for the bus tickets through debit and credit cards. The PRTC spokesperson said new ticket generating machines would have card swiping options, which would ease payments.
In the first phase, the PRTC will introduce the system in 25 buses of the Ludhiana depot as a pilot project.
“If the pilot project is successful, it will be introduced in all PRTC buses. These cashless transactions will also put an end to bickering over change in cash with commuters,” the spokesperson added.
PRTC Managing Director Manjit Singh Narang said, “If we get good response, we will procure more electronic ticketing machines, which will have both debit and credit card swiping facility along with issuing of tickets through the manual process.”
