Don’t bypass CEO, depts told

CHANDIGARH: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, has asked all offices and departments not to bypass the office of the CEO for sending any references to the Election Commission of India. All references should invariably be examined by the committees constituted for the purpose and the proposal cleared by the committee shall only be sent to the commission by the CEO along with his specific comments. Parhlad is YAD dist chief 

The SAD has appointed Parhlad Singh as district president of the Youth Akali Dal, Fatehgarh Sahib (Urban). It also inducted 11 new members into the YAD core committee. College students stage protest

Muktsar: Students of the Government College in Muktsar lodged a protest on Thursday against some recent restrictions imposed on them. These include the ban on girls on standing outside the college complex. Later, the college management and the local Tehsildar held a meeting with the protesting students and agreed to their demands. Missing sisters found after one year

Abohar: Two sisters, aged 17 and 19, who went missing from their college in Padampur (Sriganganagar) on July 31 last year, have been recovered. A Special Investigation Team was constituted under the directions of Jodhpur-based High Court as parents of the missing girl filed a petition. The team headed by Vikram Tiwari on Thursday recovered one of the girls from Jalandhar and her sister from Amritsar. They will be produced in a court on Friday to record their statements under Section 164 of the CrPC. OC

196-kg poppy husk seized, 2 held

Abohar: The Hanumangarh police claimed to have seized 196 kg of poppy husk from two drug peddlers. Peelibanga police station incharge Luxman Singh Rathore said 180 kg of poppy husk was seized during a raid at a dhani near Lakhuwali village. Harpal Singh was held under the NDPS Act. In the subsequent raid near traffic lights, the police seized 16 kg of poppy husk from Tarsem Sharma, a retired constable of the Rajasthan Police. OC
