Official records of the District Transport Office are lying abandoned at the District Administrative Complex (DAC) here for the past one week. A visit to the first floor of the DAC today revealed that the records, including motor vehicle smart registration cards and original bills of vehicles, were lying in the open.

Much to the surprise was that the records were not very old as some files were found to be of last year.

Sources in the district administration confirmed that the records were lying at the same place for the past one week. “The records should have been kept in a storeroom. It can be misused as it includes some smart registration cards and other documents,” they said.

They added that there was so much shortage of space at the DAC that the records were left to rot in the open. “This shows the careless attitude of the officials concerned. The responsibility of the guilty needs to be fixed,” said sources.

Muktsar SDM Rajpal Singh said, “I have taken over the charge of the Transport Department, but the record is still in possession of the District Revenue Officer (DRO) who was holding the additional charge of the District Transport Officer (DTO) before the state government abolished the post.”

He even claimed that the routine work was also suffering as the record was yet to be handed over to him.
