Sunam SDM Rajdeep Brar has asked the Punjab Government to arrange a caretaker for the ancestral house-cum-museum of Shaheed Udham Singh in the town. The museum has remained locked this month after the retirement of caretaker Shingara Singh on May 31.
State BJP chief Vijay Sampla had yesterday alleged that the state Department of Cultural Affairs had insulted the martyr by keeping the museum closed.
The SDM said, “I wrote to the senior authorities last evening. We want that an employee should be transferred here at the earliest.”
Jatinder Jain, a local social worker and RTI activist, said: “Visitors from various districts are returning disappointed daily as there is nobody to look after the museum.”
Jain and other local residents had submitted a request to the SDM yesterday for reopening the place, which falls under the Archaeological Survey of India.
