Baghapurana MLA Darshan Singh Brar’s son Kamaljit Singh Brar surrendered before a court here today. The court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him on May 21 for allegedly submitting a fake medical certificate to skip court hearing in a criminal case.
Kamaljit is the general secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress.
The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) GS Johal granted Kamaljit bail.
Earlier, the court had also summoned Jagraon-based Dr Ajay Bansal and ascertain the authenticity of the medical certificate.
The arrest warrant was also issued against Kamaljit’s associates — Ravinder Singh Binda and Jaskirat Singh. Earlier, the judge had cancelled their bail pleas and bonds.
On November 27, 2011, Kamaljit and four of his associates — Binda, Jaskirat, Mandeep Singh and Daljit Singh — were booked under Sections 323, 118, 506 and 149 of the IPC in connection with violence during elections to the Punjab Youth Congress.
On the night of November 27, rival groups of the Youth Congress clashed in Moga’s Kokri Vehniwal village. Five persons, including Binda, were injured.
