The Majitha police booked Ashurbanpal Singh Latti, who allegedly stripped naked and thrashed five Dalit children for plucking radish in his field at Sohian Kalan village, for hurting the religious sentiments here today.

On the complaint of Ranjit Singh, father of one of the children, the police have registered a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) 323 (causing hurt) and 295-A (hurting religious sentiments) IPC. The police have recorded the statements of the victims.

Mohit Kumar, SHO, Majitha police station, said, “We have recorded the statements of families of children. On the complaint of Ranjit Singh, a case has been registered under relevant sections. The accused is at large. We are investigating the matter and will nab him soon.”

All the children were baptised. A villager recorded a video in which the children accused Ashurbanpal Singh Latti of assaulting them. The video went viral on social networking sites.
