The 192nd Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, opened on Monday, will be the first in the country to have all-women staff.
Union Minister Vijay Sampla and Regional Passport Officer Harmanbir Singh Gill inaugurated the passport office.
Gill said Madhuri Bhambi would be the senior passport assistant, who would also work as the verification officer, while Seema Sharma and Prabhjot Kaur would be the postal assistants.
Gill said 77 main regional passport offices were operational in the country and 577 more would be opened soon.
“The next centre will be opened in Pathankot,” said Gill. Sampla assured a delegation of the Citizen Rights Forum, headed by Dr JS Virk and Malkiat Singh Ragbotra, that the flyover in Phagwara would be constructed soon.
He said the Union Government was reconsidering reducing the toll tax. SSP Parminder Singh Bhandal, ASP Sandeep Malik, SDM, Phagwara, Jyoti Bala and tehsildar Inderbir Singh were also present.
