Five days after robbery, money changer dies

A money changer, Gurvinder Ram, who was looted by three armed robbers at Nagar village in Phillaur on the night of February 14, died under mysterious circumstances this afternoon. He was running a Western Union shop in the village.

The three accused — who had looted his bag containing Rs 11,80,500, 1,400 dirhams of Dubai, $653, two cheque books and a passbook — were nabbed by the Phillaur police on February 15. However on Monday afternoon, Gurvinder was seen running outside from his shop and soon he collapsed on the road.

An injury mark was seen on his chest. He was taken to a local private hospital, from where he was shifted to the DMC, Ludhiana, where he was declared brought dead. The police said they were waiting for the post-mortem examination report.
