Former DGP Suresh Arora is now Punjab’s CIC

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday appointed former DGP Suresh Arora as state Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and senior journalist Asit Jolly as Information Commissioner.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said it had issued notifications for the appointment.

Suresh Arora, an IPS officer of 1982 batch, retired in February this year after 33 years of service. An alumnus of University of London, Arora has served SSP Patiala, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and UT Chandigarh between April 1987 and August 1994. He was made DIG, Chief Minister’s Security, from September 1998 till July 1998, before being appointed IGP-cum-Director Vigilance Bureau in 2001.

Arora became DGP of Punjab Police in October 2015. It was during his tenure that the State Information Commission shortlisted the Punjab Police department as the ‘Best Govt. Department to implement RTI’.

Chandigarh Asit Jolly, a noted journalist, currently works is currently a deputy editor with India Today Group. He has worked with The Asian Age and BBC.
