Chandigarh, August 23
The Punjab Cabinet on Thursday approved a Bill to create a price stabilisation fund to ensure that farmers get the minimum support price (MSP) for their produce.
The Bill is aimed at protecting the interests of farmers in the event of a sharp fall in prices of certain commodities. It will bring amendments to Section 25 (A), 26 and 28 of the Punjab Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961.
The fund is expected to help producers of maize, sunflower and pulses get better prices. The amendments will make a provision for a contribution from commission charged by arhtiyas to the fund. — TNS
