The rural police have arrested five members of the Gurpreet Singh Sekhon gang who was the mastermind behind the Nabha jailbreak.

They recovered two pistols, a gun, live cartridges and a car bearing a fake registration number from their possession.

The police said the gangsters were hatching a conspiracy to free gangster Ramandeep Singh, alias Rummy Mashana, from the police custody when he would be produced in the court on the orders of Sekhon and Chanpreet Singh, alias Channa, an accomplice of Sekhon.

Arpit Shukla, IG, said Inspector Harinder Singh, incharge of the CIA-I staff of the district, along with a police party arrested the gangsters from Chak Kalan village in Nakodar.

The arrested gangsters are Kala Singh (36), Jaswinder Singh Kabaddi (25), Daljit Singh alias Lali (22), Bhupinder Singh alias Bhinda (25) and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa (26).

Shukla said the gang was specialised in looting luxury cars at the highway and committing robberies.
