Chandigarh, May 21
The smart ration card scheme, the Aadhaar-enabled Public Distribution System, is all set to be launched in June, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
To minimise diversion, leakage, pilferage and to bring transparency in the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), and to ensure that eligible beneficiaries get their entitled quota, the state government initiated the distribution of wheat to the eligible beneficiaries through ePoS (Electronic Point of Sale) devices. At present, there are 35,26,775 families comprising 1.37crore individuals covered under the TPDS. To date, 98.24 per cent families and 95.26 per cent individual beneficiaries have been seeded with their Aadhaar number, which will decimate the probability of bogus beneficiaries. — TNS
