A video showing a girl tied to an iron chain to prevent her from drug abuse has gone viral on the social media.
The victim’s mother claimed that she was under treatment. The police said the drug abuse prevention officer (DAPO) nominated by the police had encouraged her to shun drugs and take treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said: “The police buddy project helped the victim get treatment. She was given medication today as well.” About her being chained, he said the girl had the key to the lock of the chain.
In the video, the victim’s mother was seen urging the government to open a separate de-addiction centre for women. She said the government had failed to curb drug abuse. “My daughter has been admitted several times but discharged after a couple of days. Then, she suffered a relapse. Now, she has been chained for the past one week,” she said. The DCP said if the family needed any financial help, they could contact some NGO.
