Girl shot during celebratory fire at wedding in Ajnala

A wedding reception today turned tragic in Dalam village in Ajnala, when a five-year-old girl died of a gunshot injury. Raminder Singh of Mattia village, who was one of the people firing shots in the air, has been arrested.
Sources said Simardeep Kaur, who was hit in the head by a stray bullet, died on the way to the hospital. The police have sent the body for a postmortem examination and taken several persons into custody.
Shivdarshan Singh, SHO, said Raminder was a friend of the groom, Navpreet Singh of Mohar village. The SHO said several relatives of Navpreet were firing in the air on the dance floor at the reception.
He said one of the bullets that Raminder shot with his .12 bore gun hit Gurbhej Singh’s daughter Simardeep. The victim suddenly fell down. She was rushed to the hospital, but she died on the way. The SHO said they had taken the statements of the family and other eyewitnesses. A case was being registered.
