Girls outshine boys, secure top three spots

Girls secured the top three positions (academics category) in the Class XII examinations of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), the results of which were declared today.

The first two slots went to students from Ludhiana and the third position to a girl from Gurdaspur. Overall, far more girls than boys cleared the examinations.

Amisha Arora of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, stood first obtaining 443 out of 450 marks (98.44 per cent) and Prabhjot Joshi of BCM Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, got 442 marks (98.22) per cent and was placed second. Riya of Tagore Centenary Public Senior Secondary School, Gurdaspur, stood third by securing 441 marks (98 per cent).

In the sports category, Husan Deep Kaur of Baba Sahib Das Public Senior Secondary School, Phaguwala (Sangrur), stood first with 437 marks in academics out of 450. However, after the board gave her a benefit of 13 marks for participation in sports, she secured 100 per cent marks. 

In the same category, Nancy Goyal of BCM Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, was placed second securing 436 marks in academics with a benefit of 14 marks, bringing her total to 100 per cent. 

The third position in this category went to Shivam Kumar of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, with 435 marks in academics and a benefit of 15 marks, again taking the total to 100 per cent marks.

BS Dhol, Chairman, PSEB, said the academic marks were taken as the base for determining the positions in the examinations.

Though the board had issued separate lists for toppers in academics and sports categories, the provisional merit list put out by it showed that three students from the sports category secured the top ranks, each getting 100 per cent marks. At the press conference, the board chairman declared that Ameesha Arora (98.44 per cent) was the exam topper with Prabhjot Joshi (98.22 per cent) and Riya (98 per cent), all academics category, coming second and third, respectively.

The overall pass percentage came down to 62.36 from 76.77 last year. The chairman said grace marks were not given this year.

Ludhiana rules merit list

The maximum number of students placed on the merit list of 350 candidates are from Ludhiana district (139), followed by Jalandhar and Sangrur (29 each) and Patiala (28). There was none from Faridkot district on the list while Pathankot and Tarn Taran had one each.

Gurdaspur shines too

In terms of the pass percentage, Gurdaspur district was at the top with 76.14 followed by Tarn Taran (72.31) and Amritsar (71.08). Ropar was at the bottom with 53.53 pass percentage.

Topper Amisha aspires to be a professor

Ludhiana: Amisha Arora, who topped the PSEB Class XII results, has secured 98.44 percent marks, bettering her Class X performance of 97.38 per cent marks and 13th rank. Her father Ravinder Kumar owns a provision store and mother Meenu Arora is a housewife. A student of commerce at RS Model School, Shastri Nagar, Amisha wants to become a university professor. “Only education can improve the world and I want to spread education,” she says. On her success, she says one should not take too much pressure of studies. “I used to study till late at night, but never took too much stress. I have a firm faith in God. The support of my parents and family helped me perform well in exams,” she says. TNS

Prabhjot bags second position, wants to pursue LLB

Ludhiana: Prabhjot Joshi, a student of BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, Ludhiana, has secured 98.22 per cent and stood second in the academic list of the PSEB Class XII results. She had secured fourth position in the state in Class X with 98.4 per cent marks. She said she wants to pursue LLB and join judicial services. She said her parents inspired her to be a topper. She said she studied daily for around four hours to get good marks. She loves reading literature and often spends time in library, she says. TNS

Riya bags third spot with 98%

Gurdaspur: Riya, a student of Tagore Centenary Public Senior Secondary School, Gurdaspur,  has bagged the third position. Daughter of Junior Commissioned Officer Rajesh Kumar, Riya secured 98 per cent (441 marks out of 450) in the non-medical stream. Riya said her success would not have been possible without the support of her teachers and parents. “Hard work and dedication is the key to success. I have always believed in hard work  and now I am happy that it has finally paid dividends,” said Riya. She said she wanted to pursue BSc in mathematics. The chairman of the school, Ravinder Sharma, said Riya was one of the best students of the school. “She worked hard and maintained a fine balance between her studies and extra-curricular activities. She is one of the most disciplined students of our school. We, the staff and students, are proud of her achievements.” TNS
