CHANDIGARH/SULTANPUR LODHI: Extending greetings to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the eve of the 550th Gurpurb, Governor VP Singh Badnore called upon them to follow the path shown by the founder of Sikhism.

Extending greetings to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the eve of the 550th Gurpurb, Governor VP Singh Badnore called upon them to follow the path shown by the founder of Sikhism.

Highlighting the fundamental tenets of Sikhism, he called for Sarbat da bhala (welfare of all) — which includes believing in equality of mankind, engaging in selfless service and striving for social justice for the benefit and prosperity of all.

Meanwhile, Chief Ministers of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh joined the celebrations at the SGPC pandal.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and his HP counterpart Jai Ram Thakur spoke about Nanak’s message and how people can inculcate it in their daily lives. Khattar said his government was propagating the Guru’s message of unity in every sphere of political life. Thakur said the Guru had empowered women, a message which needed to be followed in every sphere of life in today’s age too.

Odisha Vidhan Sabha Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro, European Parliament member Neena Gill and New Zealand Parliament member Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi were also present. SGPC chief Gobind S Longowal too spoke about the relevance of Nanak’s philosophy. SAD chief Sukhbir Badal attended the function and sat among the sangat. — TNS/PTI
