Sangrur, August 12
The city police have booked gangster Dalwinder Singh alias Babli and his accomplice, Chamkaur Singh, who are lodged in the Central Jail in a murder case, for threatening a deceased financier’s family on the phone. A case has been registered under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act.
Sajjan Singh, father of financier Hardev Singh alias Happy, had lodged a complaint with the SSP two months ago, alleging that Babli and his accomplices were threatening the family members with dire consequences if they failed to withdraw the case.
“After getting a complaint from Sajjan, we conducted an investigation and found that the allegations were true,” said Mandeep Sidhu, SSP.
On February 16, Happy had been waylaid in the main market of Longowal by five persons. Two of them had gunned down Happy. Later, Babli uploaded videos on Facebook, justifying the murder. He had surrendered in a local court on February 28.
The Longowal police had booked Babli, Gurpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh, Suraja Khan and Varinder Singh under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
