Justice Gill panel gets extension
Moga, September 20
The Punjab government has extended the tenure of Justice Mehtab Singh Gill (retired) Commission for another one year till September 5, 2020. This is the third such extension the commission has got.
Soon after the formation of Capt Amarinder Singh government, the state had on April 5, 2017 set up a Commission of Inquiry, headed by former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Mehtab Singh Gill (retired), to review the false cases and FIRs registered against Congress workers and others under the decade-long Akali regime from 2007 to 2017. The two-member commission has former District and Sessions’ Judge BS Mehandiratta as member.
So far, the commission has inquired and settled more than 3,000 cases wherein people were “implicated in false cases” from 2007 to 2017 during the SAD-BJP rule. There were about 1,500 more complaints pending to be inquired. Therefore, it sought further extension for an year. — TNS
