Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Hemant Gupta's name has been cleared for elevation to the Supreme Court.
Justice Gupta served as additional advocate general of Punjab from 1997 to 1999, and was made judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court — where he served the longest and was one of its most senior judges — on July 2, 2002.
Justice Gupta then served as a judge in Patna High Court from February 8, 2016, and was made acting chief justice of the court on October 29, 2016, until his appointment to Madhya Pradesh High Court on March 18, 2017.
