The government said on Sunday that work at the Rs-500-crore Passenger Terminal Complex at Dera Baba Nanak for the Kartarpur corridor was in full swing and will be completed by the stipulated deadline, October 31.

The government wants to make sure that the terminal is ready for use by  Guru Nanak Dev's 550th birth anniversary in November 2019.

A senior official in the Ministry of Home Affairs said: “The terminal is being built on 15 acres of land. It will have all public amenities to enable smooth passage of approximately 5,000 passengers per day”.

The official said the main building of the terminal will be spread over 16,000 square meters. The facility will be centrally air-conditioned.

“The complex will have 54 immigration counters for facilitating travel of 5,000 pilgrims per day and it will also have adequate seating capacity to accommodate 2,000 pilgrims,” he said.

The terminal would also have kiosks, washrooms, childcare facilities, first aid medical facilities, a prayer room and snacks counters. he said. In order to address security issues, the terminal would have CCTV surveillance and public address systems, the official said, adding that the structure will look like an airport.

There will be 'a 300-feet National Monumental Flag' at the International Border.

“Excavation for the foundation is nearly complete for the whole complex, while the plinth and RCC column has already been put in place for the main building. Work is being executed in parallel to ensure simultaneous completion of different activities,” the official said.

The government also plans to consult architecture schools in Amritsar for landscaping the entire complex with “rich Punjabi heritage and the life and works of Shri Guru Nanak Devji”.
