A labourer, Harjinder Singh alias Gaggu (22), was allegedly beaten to death today by five residents of his village, Jorki Andhewali.
Binder Singh, brother of the deceased, said Sira Singh, Manpreet Singh, Kala Singh, Raja Singh and Amarjit Singh took Harjinder to nearby Ojhanwali village to attend a religious congregation around 8:30 pm yesterday.
Binder said he was returning home after watering the fields at 5:30 am today when he saw his brother being thrashed with sticks by Sira, Manpreet and Raja, while Amarjit and Kala were sitting in a parked car. On spotting Binder, they sped away, he alleged, adding that he found his brother dead.
“The motive is yet to be ascertained,” investigating officer Iqbal Singh said.
The accused have been booked under Sections 302, 148, 149 and 506 of the IPC.
