Labourer killed, 4 hurt in sweet shop fire

PHILLAUR: A Bihari labourer identified as Daya Ram (32) was killed while four others sustained injuries in a fire that broke out in Gaba Sweets shop here on Tuesday.

A Bihari labourer identified as Daya Ram (32) was killed while four others sustained injuries in a fire that broke out in Gaba Sweets shop here on Tuesday.

Phillaur SDM Rajesh Sharma and DSP Davinder Attri said three labourers managed to escape by jumping down from the first floor, while another labourer Davinder (35) sustained burn injuries and was admitted to Phillaur hospital. Fire tenders from Phagwara made all efforts to control the fire. The exact cause of fire could not be known yet.

Phillaur town has no fire brigade facilities and depends upon Phagwara and Ludhiana only.
