A local resident, Hazura Singh, has alleged that City police station SHO and an ASI thrashed him and his son at the police station.

They had gone there following a complaint by a neighbour over a parking dispute on Friday night.

The police had implicated his two sons in a false case and registered a case under Section 332, 353, 186, 506 and 407 of IPC against them, he alleged.

Hazura Singh — in a letter to Ropar SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu — has demanded a probe into the incident and sought action against the “erring” police officials. Hazura Singh said a neighbour had lodged a complaint and the police had told his son Rajbir to come to the police station.

“I, along with my sons and other residents, reached the police station and both parties agreed to solve the issue amicably and sign an agreement in this regard,” Hazura said.

He alleged, “But ASI Rajinder Kumar kept using foul language against Rajbir. When they objected to it, the police, including Rajinder Kumar, started thrashing him.”

He alleged, “SHO Gursewak Singh came there and without listening to me started thrashing me.”

SHO Gursewak and ASI Rajinder Kumar denied the allegations. Rajinder said though Rajbir had apologised to the complainant, both parties were arguing over the names of signatories on the compromise deed. When he found that they were not ready to end the dispute amicably, he told them that a case under Section 107/351 of CrPC would be registered against them. The ASI alleged that brothers Rajbir and Gurpreet Singh got angered by it and attacked him.

While Rajbir has been arrested, Gurpreet is on the run, said the SHO. The SSP said he would order a probe. — TNS
