Under fire from Panthic leaders for calling off Insaaf Morcha at Bargari recently, acting parallel Jathedar of Akal Takht Dhian Singh Mand today cancelled his January 10 meeting in Fatehgarh Sahib.

He took the decision after a meeting with Jagtar Singh Hawara at Delhi’s Tihar jail. Hawara, a convict in former Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassination case, had been declared parallel Jathedar of Akal Takht during the Sarbat Khalsa in Amritsar district in November 2015.

Mand had initially given a call for holding the meeting in Fatehgarh Sahib on December 20 to discuss the resumption of the morcha. In view of talks between some of Mand’s detractors at Bargari on December 18, he had postponed his own meeting to January 10.

Even as some disgruntled leaders had given a call for holding a Panthic conference in Moga district on January 8 to announce the date of morcha resumption, Mand went to meet Hawara in the Delhi jail.

After discussing the issue with Hawara, he has decided to cancel the January 10 meeting, said Jagdeep Singh Bhullar, Mand’s assistant.

The morcha, which was aimed at seeking justice in the cases of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing, had been launched in June. Mand is being accused of calling off the morcha unilaterally and prematurely.
