Chandigarh, July 7
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered the removal of controversial police officer Kamaljit Singh Dhillon from the post of the SSP, Moga. He was posted in place of “tainted”SSPRaj Jit Singh.
Dhillon has been replaced with an officer who had allegedly ignored an SOS call by SP Salwinder Singh (later dismissed) that he was kidnapped by terrorists. The terrorists had later attacked the Pathankot Air Force Station.
An official said the CMordered the removal of Dhillon after receiving a detailed report that said a few inquiries had recommended disciplinary action against him.
The Tribune had in an exclusive report in June last year exposed Dhillon’s role in a shady Rs 40-lakh recovery of drugs when he was Moga SSP.
A government spokesperson said the Chief Minister had asked DGP Suresh Arora and the Home Department to immediately take action on the inquiries. It was alleged that an inquiry report by the crime branch had recommended action against Dhillon in September last year, but action was pending with the Police Department.
An official said GS Toor was appointed the new Moga SSP. He was an upright officer with extensive experience during various stints as an SSP in several districts of the state. An IPS officer of the 2004 batch, he was currently the AIG, Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana.
The CM had released Toor’s book on his experiences with drug addicts early this week.
