Moga sex scam kingpin held for drug smuggling

The kingpin of the Moga sex scandal, Simranjit Kaur alias Indu Bala, was arrested today on the charge of smuggling drugs, the police said.
A police party led by Inspector Lakhwinder Singh, incharge of the anti-narcotics cell of the local police, intercepted a Bolero on the Moga-Ludhiana national highway at Mehna village. During search, 1 kg of intoxicating powder, 110 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 10,500 were found.
Of the three car occupants, one managed to flee. The two arrested were Indu Bala and driver Nirmal Singh alias Nikka of the district’s Singhawala village.The two were produced before a local court that remanded them in three-day police custody. Indu reportedly told the police she brought drugs from Ludhiana and Ambala. Meenu of Ambala supplied her drugs, she said.
Shady past
- In 2007, Simranjit Kaur, alias Indu Bala, named several political bigwigs and senior police officials in the sex scandal. The trial is pending in a CBI court in Patiala
- Former Moga SSP Davinder Singh Garcha, former SP (Headquarters) Paramdip Singh Sandhu, former SHO Raman Kumar, Indu Bala and a few Moga councillors were arrested in the scam
- The CBI summoned Baljinder Singh Brar, alias Makhan Brar, son of SAD leader Tota Singh. He is also facing trial.
