Muktsar, December 4
Two days after history-sheeter Manpreet Singh, alias Manna, was shot dead outside a gym in a shopping mall complex in Malout town, the district police are so far clueless.
The deceased’s family had raised suspicion about role of a senior Akali leader’s son and an Akali councillor. A post from a Facebook page, being run in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, had also claimed that gangster Raju Bhisodi had killed Manna after planning it with Lawrence, but nothing concrete has come out so far.
Gurmel Singh, SP (Investigation), Muktsar, who is heading the five-member SIT, said, “We are investigating from all angles. CCTV footage from Malout town, border areas of neighbouring states Haryana and Rajasthan has been procured and scanned.”
Notably, 37-year-old Manna was a close relative of Congress leaders Shubhdeep Singh Bittu and Bakhshish Singh. His mother has remained a councillor from Malout on the SAD ticket. He was a stakeholder in liquor business, owned some commercial sites in Malout. Fond of swanky cars, Manna at the time of his murder had come to the gym in a Jaguar car.
Manna had participated in the Assembly elections in Lambi in 2017, when Capt Amarinder Singh contested against Parkash Singh Badal. Further, he was active during the Malout Municipal Council elections as well.
