After last year’s row over alleged distortion of Sikh history in textbooks, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has landed itself in soup once again.
In a goof-up, the PSEB has published freedom fighter Rajguru’s photo in place of Sukhdev’s in the Class IV textbook. The glaring error has been made in the Punjabi textbook. In chapter 3 of the textbook, titled “Bal Sukhdev”, the photo of Rajguru has been used while the chapter is on Sukhdev.
Questioning the error, schoolteachers said, “How come after a lot of screening and rigorous proofreading before printing the blunder was committed?”
Teachers said the government should immediately recall the textbooks and rectify the mistake. Hardeep Toderpur, a Punjabi teacher, said, “This is sheer negligence by the department. The department has a long track record of committing such blunders. Action should immediately be taken against the erring officials.”
Meanwhile, Education Department officials refuted the allegation and said someone was spreading fake news. However, official spokesperson for the Education Department Rajinder Singh said, “If there is some mistake then the education board will answer. We will hold inquiry.”
