Jalandhar, May 4

A married woman was found murdered with sharp-edged weapons at her house, while a man was found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village late last night. The victims were identified as Suman (35), wife of Subhash Chand, and Bikram (34). DSP Balachaur Rajpal Singh said he was suspecting that the double murder on same night could be the handiwork of the same persons.

Forensic experts have been roped in to collect evidence from the crime spots. It is learnt that Suman could not bear a child even after years of marriage and the couple had adopted a girl child. She, however, was four-month pregnant now.

The police have recorded the statement of Gurpreet Singh, brother of Suman, who has said he had called his sister at 7:30 pm on May 3. He stated that his sister had alleged that her in-laws were troubling her and when he came to her house in the village, he found her blood-stained body. On the basis of his statement, the Nawanshahr police have booked four persons for her murder.
