Sri Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara in Uttarakhand is scheduled to open on June 1.
The pilgrimage to the holy shrine is already behind schedule due to heavy winter snowfall that had engulfed the whole region. It has been learnt that the devotees will have to travel at least 3 km on foot as the prevailing conditions would not permit to ride horses or mules.
Army teams have been deployed to provide hassle-free passage to the pilgrims. The Hemkund Sahib Management Trust said Army teams had been clearing the track and the frozen sarovar. Other arrangements had been in place for the devotees. The trust’s vice-president Narinderpal Singh Bindra said gurdwara doors would be opened on June 1 and ‘parkash’ of Guru Granth Sahib would be initiated. He said the helicopter service would also be offered on the same day.
