A vigilance Bureau team here arrested a head constable posted at the local Sadar Police Station while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 here today.
The team led by Gurinderjit Singh Sandhu, DSP, vigilance Bureau, Fazilka, along with Inspector Amandeep Singh arrested head constable Manjit Singh in old court roads opposite the city police station.
Sandhu said Satinder Kaur of Ferozepur district had lodged a complaint of cheating against Surta Singh of Rana village of Fazilka district.
The application was marked to head constable Manjit Singh for investigation. The DSP said the head constable allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Surta Singh in lieu of preparing the report in his favour. However, a deal was struck for Rs 8,000. Surta Singh paid the first installment of Rs 5,000 to the head constable and then informed the vigilance office. Today when Surta Singh paid the final amount of Rs 3,000 to the head constable, the team members arrested him red-handed in the presence of government witnesses.
