Capt directs immediate ban on ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv-Kush’ across Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday night ordered immediate ban by the respective DCs on the telecast of the controversial TV serial ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv-Kush’, which has sparked protests among the Valmiki community.

Acting on the CM’s orders, District Commissioners started issuing the necessary notification banning the telecast of the serial by cable operators in their respective districts.

The CM also warned against any attempt to disturb the state’s peace and communal harmony.

The Valmiki community had on Saturday called for a protest bandh, during which a youth was shot at in Jalandhar’s Nakodar but was later operated upon. 

Expressing anguish over the incident, the CM warned of strict action against anyone found trying to disrupt the state’s peace and communal harmony.

In Fazilka, a man was injured after the community members allegedly pelted traders with stones while enforcing the bandh.

The daylong bandh led to minor incidents of violence and threw life out of gear in parts of the state as markets remained largely shut.

Endorsing the religious sentiments of the Valmiki community on the issue, the CM has also written to the Centre to instruct the direct-to-home (DTH) channels to stop telecast of the serial.

“Any responsible producer should refrain from producing or launching such a programme/serial,” said Captain Amarinder, adding that his government respect the religious sentiments of every community and would ensure that the serial is not telecast in the state.

Capt Amarinder has also asked the DGP to ensure strict vigil and crackdown on any disruptive elements, in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the state.
