The Union Government is “harassing” the state government and farmers to disturb the paddy procurement, said Kuljit Singh Nagra adviser to the CM, while talking to mediapersons after inaugurating the procurement process at the Sirhind mandi on Monday.
He said the Food Corporation of India (FCI) was neither clearing the wheat stacked in the state godowns nor giving funds to construct more godowns despite repeated requests. “The SAD, instead of protesting against the state government, should stage a dharna against the FCI and the Centre. Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal should either raise the issues of farmers or resign,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Parshant Goyal called upon the farmers to bring paddy to the mandis as per government specifications to avoid harassment and ensured payment within 72 hours.
