Nine days after attack, man dies in hospital

Deepak Kumar (35), a resident of Dashmesh Nagari, Jalalabad, who was assaulted by some persons on August 21, succumbed to his injuries in the PGI on Thursday. Ajay Kumar and Sandeep Kumar, alias Seepu, of Jalalabad and seven-eight unidentified persons, including a woman, have been booked under Sections 302, 323, 324, 342 148 and 149 of the IPC, allegedly for killing Deepak Kumar. A man, Gobind, told the police that he and his friends Sukha Singh and Deepak Kumar were returning home on the DAV College Road at 11 pm on August 21 when three motorcycle-borne youths and some other unidentified persons assaulted them with sharp-edged weapons and sticks. Deepak sustained serious injuries in the attack and was shifted to the Civil Hospital in Jalalabad from where he was referred to the PGI. The reason of assault is said to be old rivalry. — OC
