Chandigarh, August 30
Acting on the Medical Council of India’s report, the Union Health Ministry has barred Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot, from admitting fresh students in MBBS course for sessions 2017-18 and 2018-19.
The MCI has also ordered to encash its bank guarantee of Rs 2 crore.
The inspection report of the Medical Council of India had found serious deficiencies, when it comes to college’s infrastructure, human resource and patient load.
In an order issued yesterday, the MCI said earlier during several inspections held last year, serious deficiencies were found, but on the recommendation of the ministry the college management was given a personal hearing on April 11 this year.
Following that, the hearing committee submitted its report to the ministry in which around 20 deficiencies such as more than 87 per cent lesser faculty than required and around 82 per cent shortage of resident doctors were mentioned.
Apart from that there were serious deficiencies of infrastructure. On May 31, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare decided that the college should be barred from admitting new students for two years.
However, the college moved the Supreme Court demanding another hearing. While acting on the apex court’s orders, the MCI’s hearing committee gave a final hearing to the college on August 22.
Even after that, the ministry said it reiterated its earlier stand of barring the college from admitting new students for two sessions.
