The Punjab Police took a digital leap in its initiatives to provide better and efficient services to the citizens under the e-initiative programme. Punjab DGP Suresh Arora launched the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS)-based SMS service for complainants to bring transparency and efficiency in its services to the people of the state.
Launching the SMS service at Punjab Police headquarters here, the DGP said complainants would now get SMSes on their registered mobile numbers about the registration of their FIRs and details of investigating officers (IOs) assigned to their cases. They would also receive the names and contact numbers of IOs through the message facility.
He revealed that citizens could also download a copy of FIR from the Punjab Police website. “SMS alert will be sent to complainants in case of arrest of the accused, change of the IO and submission of challan/final report,” the DGP said. He added that the citizens who wish to receive such SMS alerts are advised to update their mobile numbers during registration of the FIR.
