Satwant Kaur of Bughipura village near Moga had married Lalit in 2013.

She has alleged that her parents had spent at least Rs 10 lakh on her wedding and had also given Rs 25 lakh in cash to the groom. Besides, gold ornaments were also given by her parents in the marriage.

After living here with his wife for a few days, Lalit went back to Canada promising to take her along with him after fulfilling legal formalities. He did not keep his promise and instead, started demanding more money from her parents. He also stopped talking to her.

Satwant Kaur finally filed a complaint against her husband to the SSP, who marked an inquiry to the SP (investigation).

Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Vazir Singh recommended registration of a case against the NRI and his parents.

A senior official of the Moga police said a look-out notice would soon be issued against the NRI at all international airports. “We will also explore legal options to cancel the NRI’s passport, besides seeking his extradition from the Canadian authorities.
