The Punjab Police on Tuesday evening withdrew an order regarding the removal of red tassels from the turbans of constables and head constables.

The Tribune had yesterday reported that resentment prevailed among police personnel over the removal of red tassels from the turbans of constables and head constables, terming the new blue format as having semblance with Akali Dal’s trademark style.

ADGP (Administration) Dinkar Gupta said the orders had been withdrawn for the district police as of now. “We will review the uniform pattern again and pass fresh orders later. As of now, cops will continue to wear the same headgear as they had been doing with red tassels intact,” he said.

He added that the khaki tassels with khaki turbans of PAP cops would, however, go.

Speaking on the issue earlier in the day, Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal said, "Earlier, too, turbans were blue in colour, just tassels have been removed." Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had denied to comment on this, saying, "The Home Minister is here, ask him." Both had come to Muktsar to attend the concluding ceremony of 8th National Livestock Championship.
