Over 40 families owing allegiance to the SAD today joined the dissident group at Mauzam village in the district in the presence of estranged party MP Sher Singh Ghubaya and former SAD circle (rural) president Jathedar Charan Singh.

Charan Singh, who had quit the SAD recently, claimed that 42 Taksali Akali families led by Narain Dass had announced to join the campaign to remove Sukhbir Singh Badal from the post of party president.

Expelled Akali leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan had launched the ‘Save Akali Dal’ campaign from Fazilka district last month. The programme had been organised by Charan Singh.

Ghubaya said people had rejected the leadership of the Badal family in the wake of a series of incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
