PAP to train first batch of women constables

The Punjab Armed Police (PAP) is all set to get its first batch of 600 women recruits who will be trained for the district police on the PAP campus here from November 7.

Kuldeep Singh, ADGP, Armed Battalions, said, “While the training centre has imparted training to women constables of armed battalions to date, this will be the first time that the constables for the district police will be trained at the centre.”

“The training of constables for armed battalions and those of the district police is entirely different. The armed police recruits get training that is focused on weapon handling and crowd handling, including riot-like situations. The district police recruits are trained in investigative aspects and are made aware about the legal aspects as well,” said the ADGP.

He added that the centre had adopted the curriculum of district police training module to impart training to these 600 women constables.

As the former SAD-BJP regime announced recruitments near the fag end of their tenure, the number of recruitments shot up causing huge rush of new recruits in all six police training centres, including three specialised ones at Kapurthala, Bahadurgarh and Ladda Kothi in Sangrur.

Due to huge rush, over 600 women constables were made to wait for over a year and it was only now that they were called at the Recruit Training Centre (RTC) in Jalandhar for a nine-month training course.

Meanwhile, 1,141 recruits today passed out from the RTC at PAP. While Sepoy Varinder Singh won the best all-rounder trophy and first prize in indoor events, Sepoy Harmanpreet Singh got the second place in all-round competition.

Sepoy Sandip Singh was the parade commander and commanded an impressive parade during the event.

ADGP Kuldip Singh inspected the parade and applauded the performance of recruits. He also congratulated the 97 jawans who got the DGP commendation disc for winning the first place in the state-level march past competition held on Republic Day in Patiala this year.

The PAP centre has so far provided training to more than 32,164 recruits in over 169 batches.
