Patiala, June 14
Patiala lad Jayesh Singla secured All India Rank 17 and topped his zone in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced, the result of which was declared on Friday afternoon.
Jayesh scored 100 percentile in JEE Main Exam—the first level of the two-part IIT exam—and came among the top 15 scorers of the 8.74 lakh who took the examination.
The 18-year-old lad who studied in Apollo Public School said a preset daily target and time management help him clinch a position in the highly competitive exam.
“Just 4-5 hours of coaching and 3-4 hours of self-study was the routine. I think students should start giving equal importance to self-study because I think it plays an important role.”
Talking to the Tribune over the phone, Jayesh said: “I used to set daily targets and work at them. This study pattern helped me a lot as it did not add any burden of the syllabus on me”.
Jayesh, who scored 97.4 per cent in Class 10, said he had wanted to major in computer engineering. His preference would be Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.
Fond of cricket, Jayesh said he would sneak some time off between studying to check cricket updates from the Indian Premier League.
“I used to check the scoreboard on my cell phone because I didn’t have a TV at my accommodation in Chandigarh. But now I will watch all the remaining world cup matches.”
