A resident of Patti, who informed the police that his daughter was a drug peddler, lamented that the police were “trying to downplay the menace of open drug trade” in the area.
Malkit Singh Meetu claimed that though his daughter had 10 gm of heroin in her possession at the time of her arrest but the police had booked her for having 50 intoxicant tablets instead, a charge that was less serious.
Inspector Hardeep Singh, SHO, Patti, however rubbished Malkit’s claim. He maintained that “only 50 intoxicant tablets were recovered” from Bholi. He said a case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against Bholi and she had been produced in a court today that sent her to jail.
The allegations levelled by Malkit have sparked a row in Patti where residents have been trying to raise the issue that drugs are “easily available on a large scale”.
Malkit, while talking to mediapersons at Patti, said his daughter had left her husband and was currently residing in Patti. He alleged that his daughter had been selling heroin for many months.
