Nakodar girl Muskan Soni, a science student of KRMDAV Collegiate Senior Secondary School, along with commerce student Sarvjot Singh Bansal of Shalimar Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, and humanities student Aman of GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Malaur (Muktsar), finished as toppers in Punjab School Education Board Class XII results (academic category), which were announced here today. All three scored 98.89 per cent marks in their respective streams.
In the sports category, Navdeep Kaur (humanities), Nanak Dev Public Senior Secondary School, Samagh, (Muktsar); Khushdeep Kaur (humanities), Tagore Modern Public Senior Secondary School, Fazilka; and Ravjeet Kaur (commerce), Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana; secured the top position by grabbing 100 per cent (450/450) marks in their respective streams.
Lovepreet Kaur (humanities), Government Senior Secondary School, Dudian village, Sangrur; finished second with 99.56 per cent marks followed by Amanpreet Kaur (commerce), Teja Singh School, Ludhiana; and Harmanpreet Kaur (science), Sant Mohan Das Memorial Senior Secondary School, Faridkot; shared third place with 98.89 marks.
In academics, Loveleen Verma (science), RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, came second with 98.67 per cent marks, while Nazia Kamboj (humanities), Maya Devi Memorial Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Fazilka; and Muskan, RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana; got 98.44 per cent marks to share the third spot.
A total of 2,69,228 students had appeared in the examination, of which 86.41 per cent students have passed. The total pass percentage has witnessed an increase by 20.44 per cent, as last year's total pass percentage was just 65.97.
The girl students put up a good show with a total pass percentage of 90.86 in comparison of boys' 82.80. Even in the toppers lists in two categories, academics and sports, girls outshone boys.
The students in rural areas produced better results in comparison to their urban counterparts, as of 1,51,307 students, 86.9 per cent have passed, while in urban areas, the pass percentage (total appeared 1,17,921) is 85.
Ludhiana district took the top spot in district-wise number of students on the merit list with 108 making it to the provisional list. The list contains as many as 319 students of all streams with 95.33 per cent cut-off. Hoshiarpur and Muktsar districts are at number two with 26 students each, followed by Jalandhar 25.
District-wise total pass percentage: Muktsar district stole the show with the maximum pass percentage of 93.28, followed by Mansa 92.27 and Roopnagar (Ropar) 91.14. Tarn Taran hit the bottom of the list with total 70.96 pass percentage.
