Punjab has been ranked top seller of power at Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) sold power worth Rs 426 crore to other states in a month.
It achieved this milestone without imposing any power cuts in the state and despite loss of power generation at thermal plants and a steep fall in hydro power generation.
As per official records, the PSPCL sold 744 million units (MUs) at Rs 5.73 per unit totalling Rs 426 crore in September.
Baldev Singh Sran, CMD, PSPCL, said: “The total power traded on IEX was 5,725.4 MUs at round-the-clock rate of Rs 4.69 per unit and average peak hour rate of Rs 6.52 per unit. We were able to sell more power during peak hours that helped us fetch an overall average rate of Rs 5.73 per unit.”
Further, the PSPCL supplied 28,773 MUs in August within the state, which is 506 MUs more than 28,267 MUs supplied during same period in 2017.
Sran said: “The PSPCL supplied more power despite 880 MW reduction in installed capacity due to the closure of Bathinda thermal plant and two units of Ropar thermal plant, besides reduction in generation from hydel and BBMB plants to the extent of 400 MW because of less inflow of water.”
Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar said the successful passage of the paddy season was an achievement for the PSPCL.
